What's in Your Kit

Every BakerCrate kit includes:

  • A generously portioned cake mix - final cake size will be indicated on the product page.
  • A matching frosting mix
  • Any piping tips and piping bags needed for that particular design.
  • 1 cardboard cake board and 3 parchment paper rounds.
  • Illustrated step-by-step instructions.

Some kits may also include optional extras like cake toppers or decorations—see your specific product page for details!

What You'll Need (Not Included in Kits)

In addition to your BakerCrate kit, you'll need a few basic ingredients and tools:

Wet Ingredients:

  • See the "What's Included" section for your kit.

Recommended Equipment:

  • Round cake pans
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Cake scraper (necessary for smooth designs)
  • Electric hand or stand mixer - you can mix by hand, but you'd need major muscles and stamina!
  • Cooling racks

Bonus Equipment (recommended, but not necessary):

  • Rotating decorating turntable
  • Offset spatula
  • Kitchen scale

Customization Ideas

Make your cake your own with these easy ideas:

Frosting Color – Add gel or powder food coloring to your frosting for a custom look.

Frosting Style – Try smooth sides, rustic swoops, or textured finishes using a spatula or cake comb.

Toppers & Candles – Add your own theme toppers, birthday candles, or edible glitter.

Fillings (optional) – Adding fillings is a great way to level up your cake game and add additional flavors. Some ideas include fruit jams, lemon or lime curd, ganache, whipped cream, or pudding. You can even layer them with fresh fruit!

FAQs

Can I make cupcakes instead?

Yes! Each 6" cake kit makes about 12 standard cupcakes. Adjust the baking time to 15–20 minutes.

Do I need to refrigerate the cake?

Only if you've added perishable fillings like whipped cream or fruit. Otherwise, it can stay covered at room temp for 2–3 days.

What if I mess up the frosting?

Storage Info

Store all dry mixes in a cool, dry place. For best results, use within 12 months of purchase.

Once baked, store finished cakes at room temperature for 2–3 days, or refrigerate if filled with perishable ingredients.
